Eli (or anyone else),
I’m currently in college for a degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Science (with a focus in Ecology).
One of the problems I’ve already seen is that there seems to be a disconnect between scientists and the technology people. A lot of times the professionals don’t speak the same language.
The Ecologists might have SOME tech knowledge. The tech people might have SOME understanding of Ecology. This is why we need experts on both to work together.
My focus is on how to foster more understanding on both sides so the problems faced on the Ecology side can be solved via technology. You can’t implement something you don’t understand.
Beyond basic meetings and education with both sides together, do you have any suggestions for me?
What ideas do you have of solving ecological issues with technology? And can you explain using both ecology lingo and tech lingo? Its about transferable ideas ie. analogies. Practice speaking with people from both sides and refine how you explain things. Pretty soon you will be able to explain complex ideas to either group. I have been able to explain nanotechnology to friends who are political scientists and social workers.
